Where to find great art?

After highschool I plan to tour the United States and visit all the best art museums. I'm asking for suggestions of great places to go to and visit. I plan to be an art teacher, and I'm not really into old art. I'm into art like disturbing, modern, abstract, new art, paintings, sculptures, designs, things like that. Does anybody know where some of the best places are to go to. Im planning my trip now so that I can save up enough money to be able to make this happen.
